The Mysterious BoyWithUke Collaborates with Oliver Tree for a Blistering Break Up Track

Hate your ex? So do BoyWithUke and Oliver Tree

The masked artist BoyWithUke teamed up with Oliver Tree and released his newest single “Sick of U” on September 30. The bitter break-up track smoothly combines their styles, delivering something fun and edgy. The always witty Oliver Tree recently released the deluxe version of his album Cowboy Tears on August 3. He claims it was his last album release before he retires from music.

As for rising star BoyWithUke, he has just kicked off his music career. The mysterious Massachusetts native rose to fame on TikTok, always wearing a mask. He has only been releasing music for a few years, but already has quite an impressive repertoire. He released his second album Serotonin Dreams in May 2022.

The catchy cadence opening the song sounds like a piano that’s been electronically distorted, setting an unsettling tone. That line of notes repeats throughout the verses, accompanied by high pitched backing harmonies. Together, they add a quiet sense of sadness - it’s almost ghostly. Brighter notes are sprinkled in through the chorus while a tight beat plays.

BoyWithUke and Tree’s vocal tones complement each other really well. Tree’s easily identifiable voice is heavy with early 2000’s pop punk overtones. However, the faceless BoyWithUke takes those pop punk tones and blends in a hip hop element. They alternate throughout the verses, but blend together in the choruses. Lyrically, the anger towards their exes is palpable. Lines like “I want you out of my life / I’m sick of all your lies / I’m sick of all the little things you used to do with my mind” suggest an emotionally exhausting relationship, and it’s clear that the ex can’t be trusted. Overall, the track is a catchy take on a relatable pain, making for an easy listen.
